Tips on running a wedding dress shop business
Running a wedding dress shop it can be harder than you imagine because you don't just sell any kind of clothes, you sell those that help a woman have the day of her life: her wedding.
If you plan to open a wedding dress shop, think about:
- How much money can you invest, is it enough, do you need extra credit or a partner?
- Your business plan, what are your goals and how do you intend to accomplish them
- Choosing the best location for your shop
If you already run a wedding dress business, think about:
- Your competition; find as much information as you can about all your competitors, visit their shops and make a list with what can you do better than them, what mistakes should you avoid, how their shops are arranged so you can make yours unique
- Defining your future target: who are your future clients, what are their needs
- Creating the right connection with the suppliers for your goods, the local wedding service vendors (caterer, florist etc) and local people working in the wedding business (DJ, photographers, reception sites, wedding planners, travel agents)
- Your marketing strategy, where will you place your advertisements (radio, TV, local newspapers)
- Doing things that others haven't thought of doing, like on the wedding day send a nice bouquet of flowers with a congratulation hand writing note to the bride who bought her dress from you
- Don't lower your prices too much, people will think that you don't sell high quality; instead make good offers (some price cuts if they buy from you not only on the dress, but the accessories too or if they buy during the non wedding season e.g. winter)
Don't get all stressed out if things are going slowly at the beginning; take one step at the time and if you are willing to be patient, ambitious, hard working, very diplomatic (though persuasive), then your business will definitely be a success.
