Hollywood Themed Weddings

Hollywood weddings have always captured the imagination of movie goers and today, more than ever before, couples are planning “Old Hollywood” themed weddings.  It is not important if the wedding is their first or fifth, they all want to look like a star on that special day.

The wedding invitation could be very interesting.  You could invite people to the exciting premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Smith   you also could have the invitation made to resemble  either a back stage pass or an admit one ticket.

A bride’s search for the perfect wedding dress is always an exciting part of the planning process.  Many brides search for dresses with v-necks and fish tail hems.  Several designers such as Jenny Packham, Badgley Mischka, Amy Michaelson, and Monique Lhuillier specialize in providing the most stunning dresses for the themed weddings.  Satin is the fabric of choice and wearing chandelier earrings with he long, fluted sleeves is a must for any bride who truly wants to look like a movie star.  Another option would be a sexy fishtail mermaid gown, and accessories could include a feather boas, fake fur or long gloves.

Besides the traditional white colored dress, designers are now being much more creative, using silver, black and blush pink. The “Old Hollywood” theme would not be complete without the groom trying to look like Fred Aistaire, wearing a classis style tuxedo with contrasting white or black tie.  His outfit is not complete unless he wears a top hat and brilliantly shined shows.  The ushers could be wearing fedoras. So as not to outshine the groom, wearing a simple one button dark suit is appropriate for the groomsmen and other male members of the wedding party.

For drinks, you probably want to serve chilly champagne, dry Martinis, and Bloody Marys.  The appetizer would be caviar, the entrée would be a choice of filet mignon or lobster tails and crepes or cherries jubilee for dessert.

To truly have the splendor of “Old Hollywood,” the couple must use classic flowers, such as roses, peonies, or lilies.  The table arrangements should be composed of just one stunning flower, such as a beautiful red rose, surrounded by an arrangement of leaves.  Having an elegant bunch of calla lilies for the bride and bridesmaid’s bouquets would be wonderful.

Although certainly not contemporary, many couples hire a swing band to play the old songs, typical of a Hollywood era of long ago.  Riding in a simple limousine is just not typical of an “Old Hollywood” wedding.  Riding in a Rolls Royce Phantom convertible, Studebaker champion or DeSoto will add the perfect touch to such a wonderful day.
