Here is what you will need to make a 3-layer wedding cake. Three cake pans with removable bottoms:  6 inch, 9 inch, and 12 inch. Nine cardboard cake rounds include three of each size. A stand up mixer, as a hand mixer may be too weak. You will also need the following: One candy thermometer, and a cake decorating kit, along with a turntable for rotating the cakes while frosting, and a cake lifter.

Once you have everything you need to make your own wedding cake, all it takes is a little work and the strong desire to make it what you want it to be. As previously stated, making your own wedding cake can be expensive and does take time, but in the long run it may be one of your most treasured memories of your wedding.
